John Carey

General Manager

After graduating with a B-Eng Honours Degree in Civil and Structural Engineering from the University of Southampton in the UK, John joined multi-disciplinary design consultancy BDP.  His passion for structural analysis and design software sales began in 1997, enjoying a career of nearly 20 years with Tekla (formerly CSC (UK) Ltd).  Promoted to Regional Director for Africa and India, he relocated to South Africa, where he joined OPTRON in 2015.

Following an initial role as Tekla Sales Director, he currently holds the position of General Manager: BuildingPoint SA, responsible for establishing this division as the go-to distributor of Trimble solutions that improve productivity, communication and collaboration between Architects, Structural Engineers and Contractors.
